The Department of Agriculture, Meghalaya continues to strives for ensuring food security and gainful employment for the citizen and its primary stakeholders, i.e. the farming community.
The department has taken steps to usher in economic empowerment of small and marginal farmers by encouraging self help groups and crop associations to take advantages of the numerous opportunities prevaling in the sector.
Groups like Ri-Bhoi Strawberry Association, Tea Growers Association, Belcham in Garo Hills etc have been able to take advantage of the various schemes provided by the State Government which aims at uplifting the economic conditions of the poor and marginalised sections of society. These groups have played a pivotal role in creating employment opportunities for other farmers as well.
On the occasion of the 62nd Republic Day, the Department of Agriculture reiterates its committment for working tirelessly for the welfare of the farming community in the State.
